The Third Software Engineering Colloquium
16 March 2010

The Cape IT Initiative (CITI) and the IEEE Computer Society Chapter (IEEE South Africa Section) will convene the Third Software Engineering Colloquium in Cape Town on 16 March 2010.

This colloquium undertakes to bring together senior technologists and technology managers with role players from industry, academia and government to put in place tangible and immediate programs to build our software industry and create value through engineering.

Current Agenda items include

  • Cape Software Factory: A new model for growing the technology industry.
  • Skills crisis: Do we lack the skills we need or are we mismanaging the skills we have?
  • Agile Cape: Evolving enterprise systems development practice
  • Open source: Repositioning FOSS as a software development methodology and not a business plan
  • Cloud computing: Building on a shared platform for software delivery
  • Rewards and recognition: Creating an Award to acknowledge software innovators, inventors, designers and architects
  • Certification: Professional recognition of software engineers. Participation in standards bodies. Inclusivity.
  • Legal compliance: The impact of governance and King III on software engineering
  • Investment: Research funding, Intellectual Property and access to capital
  • Marketing: Marketing the Western Cape’s software engineering capability locally, globally and at the 32nd International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE) in Cape Town in May 2010
